The Future of Adobe Flash

August 26, 2019
Adobe Flash is a rich media player plugin for browsers developed back 1995. After transferring hands a few times it eventually found its place in Adobe's portfolio. Now, with the rise of more powerful and secure tools Adobe has decided to globally end support and development for Flash as of December 31st 2020. You can read their official statement here: https://theblog.adobe.com/adobe-flash-update/.

The impact of this is that all Flash content will cease to function after December 31st 2020. This gives users of these modules over a year to find replacements or convert existing Flash modules to HTML5 (Captivate, Camtasia, and Storyline modules all have an HTML5 option). If you use Flash modules in your OWL courses, you will be affected.  Should you require help finding alternatives for your specific use of Flash, please reach out to elearning-tech@uwo.ca for assistance.
