Important Changes to Turnitin in OWL Sakai

Summary of Changes:

  • September 1, 2025: Turnitin Similarity will no longer be available in OWL Sakai.
  • September 1, 2025: Feedback Studio is available in OWL Sakai.
  • April 30, 2026: Last day to generate originality reports in OWL Sakai project sites using Feedback Studio.

 

What's Changing?

As of September 1, 2025, Turnitin Similarity will be removed from OWL Sakai. To continue generating originality reports in OWL Sakai project sites, you can use Turnitin Feedback Studio. Feedback Studio is the originality tool integrated in OWL Brightspace and can now be used in OWL Sakai. Please note that as of September 1, 2025, previously generated Similarity reports will not be accessible from the Assignments tool; site maintainers can produce new reports in Feedback Studio if needed.

 How to Add Feedback Studio to Your OWL Sakai Project Site

  1. Navigate to your course or project site in OWL Sakai.
  2. Click on “Site Info” in the left-hand menu.
  3. Select “Manage Tools.”
  4. Find and check “Feedback Studio Assignment” from the list of External Tools.
  5. Scroll down and click “Continue,” then “Finish.” The Feedback Studio tool will now appear in your site's left-hand menu.

 

Submitting Assignments in Feedback Studio

  1. 1. If you are submitting a paper yourself (for example, as an instructor or on behalf of a student), you can either:
    1. Add a personal (non-Western) account as a member of the site, or
    2. Use Access View: This means selecting “Access” when viewing your site, which allows you to submit or view assignments as a regular site member would.
  2. Feedback Studio in OWL Sakai allows only one assignment per course. To accommodate multiple submissions, set a due date far in the future (e.g., April 30, 2026). 3. If you require additional assignments, please submit a request to the WTS Helpdesk.

 

Need Reports for Previously Submitted Assignments?

If you need an originality report generated for assignments submitted before September 1, 2025, you can generate a new report in OWL Sakai, using Feedback Studio and within the report eliminate sources dated after the original assignment submission date.
