    Google Search Appliance being replace by Google Custom Search

    In 2016, Google announced that the Google Search Appliance that Western uses for searching web pages was being phased out. We have spent the last year researching options and have determined that moving to Google Custom Search is currently the best path to take. (Read full entry)

    iOS 11 and Western Email

    Apple iOS 11 was released on September 19 and created a compatibility issue that may have prevented users from accessing their Office 365 mail if they use the native mail app on their iPhone or iPad. Apple believes they have corrected the issue through revisions to the iOS software. WTS has conducted some testing with the latest version (iOS 11.0.3 released last week) and has not observed a recurrence of the problem with this release. (Read full entry)

    iOS 11 Compatibility with Office 365 Mail

    For anyone who is planning to upgrade an apple device to iOS 11.x or has already upgraded to iOS 11 and is experiencing problems with their Office 365 mail, WTS recommends installing the iOS 11.0.1 update OR using the Outlook app for iOS available in the App Store to access Western Mail. (Read full entry)

    Recently, Jeff Grieve, Executive Director of Information Technology services announced his plan to retire from Western to pursue a Masters degree in Digital Archaeology and Cultural Heritage preservation.     Beware of Phishing Attacks

    Western University is a large target for Phishing attacks. Many such phishing messages will be caught by Western's anti-spam tools, but some may arrive at your inbox. The spam filters have not been changed, and continue to work as they did with the Convergence platform. Through Office 365, Western email addresses are provided additional protection with the Exchange Online Protection (EOP) service. (Read full entry)

    Office 365 Project Update

    As you are aware, ITS is moving email service for Faculty Units, Libraries and Affiliates to Office 365 in a series of migrations that began on May 12th and will end on July 7th. On Thursday, June 2, 2016, email service for Brescia University College, Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic, Ivey School of Business, Faculty of Law, Museum of Ontario Archaeology and Faculty of Social Science was migrated to Office 365. (Read full entry)

    Office 365 Email Service Update - New Hires

    As a result of the ongoing migration of Western Mail to Office 365 and in preparation for the eventual decommissioning of the legacy email platform, all faculty and staff members hired after April 14th will automatically be provisioned in Office 365, even if their unit has not yet migrated to the new mail system. (Read full entry)

    Changes to Office 365 Clutter Settings

    Over the past few months, Microsoft Office 365 has enabled a feature called Clutter. Clutter analyzes your email messages and learns which messages you read and which you ignore. Messages you are likely to ignore are moved to the Clutter folder. It learns from your previous behaviour related to similar messages you have received. The more you use it, the more it becomes familiar with your behaviour. You have the control to turn it off and on.  (Read full entry)
