Best Practice using Solstice

Solstice is the wireless content sharing solution that is supported in G.U. Teaching and Presentation spaces. Mobile devices that are on Western’s Wireless network can use the Solstice app and connect to the room’s display and begin sharing content.

Note: Only those persons who will be presenting content to the group should connect to the Solstice Display

Sharing Content with Audio & Video

Video content shared with a Solstice display may exhibit latency, or present with a lower frame rate. This will be dependent on the device that is being used as the source for video playback. End-users are encouraged to share their media file from within the Solstice app, as opposed to sharing a playback window directly from their device.

Sharing from Mobile Device

Some mobile device apps may block certain media files from being captured as a consequence of Digital Rights Management protection. This could prevent the Solstice app from streaming the desired content to a Solstice Display. End-users are encouraged to test their presentation materials well in advance of their event to verify that it can be shared without issue.

Video Conferencing with Solstice

The Solstice “In-Room Camera and Microphone” feature is not available in G.U Classrooms and Presentation spaces. Instead, end-users should refer to the room’s a/v system to access the integrated Camera(s) and Microphone(s)- as applicable.
