Cellular Coverage and Capacity at Western

Western's preferred vendor for cellular services is Bell. Western and Bell partnered in 2012 to provide great rates for cellular services and increased coverage and capacity of the network in and around the campus and within our buildings. A new Bell contract, effective on your April 12th, 2019 invoice, resulted in a price reduction for corporate users.

Bell Mobility personal use programs (EPP) remain unchanged.

You can now order Cellular Services for Coorporate or Personal use.

Corporate:
Cellular services for corporate use/responsibility MUST be ordered using a Western P-card.  All the monthly charges must be paid with a Western P-card

Personal:
All current faculty and staff are eligible to purchase one cell device for their personal use.

Go to Bell Mobility to find out details about available devices, plans and associated costs for corporate or personal use.  You will need to login with your Western username and password.

Important notice: U.S. mobile carriers’ discontinuation of 3G network service.

Starting from February 2022, U.S. carriers will begin phasing out their 3G / HSPA wireless network service in the U.S (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). These are the latest updates on our roaming partners’ 3G / HSPA networks:

AT&T has announced that its 3G / HSPA network service will be discontinued in February 2022
T-Mobile has announced that its 3G / HSPA network service will be discontinued in July 2022

What does this change mean for your service?

This service discontinuation will impact Canadian wireless subscribers who travel to the U.S. and use 3G / HSPA devices or certain 4G LTE devices that do not support data and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) roaming. Please note, the U.S. mobile carriers’ discontinuation of 3G / HSPA network service will not affect your subscribers in Canada.

If you have have devices that only support 3G / HSPA, they will not be able to use voice services (including 9-1-1), the Internet or mobile data in AT&T and T-Mobile coverage areas once T-Mobile’s 3G / HSPA network services are discontinued in July 2022. In addition, subscribers with 4G LTE devices that do not support Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) roaming will also not be able to use voice services in these areas.

What are your wireless service and device options?

To ensure your roaming experience in the United States is not impacted after July 2022, compatible 4G LTE devices will be required for voice and data services.
