Recording Options

Zoom's Frequently asked questions about Zoom recording page is also a good resource for information on Local and Cloud Recording in Zoom.

Cloud recording can be made available to faculty and staff upon request. To request this access, please create a Service Desk ticket at https://westernu.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2/group/12/create/30.

Cloud Recordings are only available for 7 days before they are deleted.  If you wish to keep your recordings for a longer period of time you will need to copy your recording from Zoom and store it outside of Zoom. When you record a meeting and choose Record to the Cloud, the video, audio, and chat text are recorded in the Zoom cloud. The recording files can be downloaded to a computer or streamed from a browser.

All Western users hosting classes or meetings have the ability to do a local recording of their session. Local recording allows hosts to record their class or meeting to a local file on the device that you are logged into when using Zoom. Please note that the transcript feature is not available for local recordings.

Device Limitation:
Chromebooks and cell phones do not have the ability to allow Zoom local recording.
