Application Administrator Responsibilities

  • Understand and / or design the application architecture
  • Ensure application goes through theTechnology Risk Assessment (TRA)process where required
  • Installation and configuration of application and any software and local database dependencies of that application
  • Configure (or provide documentation for) optional OS components required by the application
  • Software licensing and vendor engagement
  • Request, apply and renew SSL certificates required for application
  • Request required monitoring of the application (e.g. application web page health checks)
  • Respond to and troubleshoot application alerts and escalate as appropriate
  • Create and maintain documentation for the application
  • Monitor and react to software vulnerability notices from the software vendor(s)
  • Schedule and install application patches
  • Manage the lifecycle of the application
  • Ensure external support for application is maintained where appropriate
  • Ensure there is a documented Business Continuity Plan (BCP) for the application
  • Ensure application Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) is developed and tested and consult with the system administrator to make sure that plan aligns with the Server OS backup and restore plan
  • Properly document data classifications for any data related to the application
  • Ensure the system adheres to campus security guidelines
  • Responsible for Role-based Access Control (RBAC)
  • Ensuring application support structure for end users
