Network Administrator Responsibilities
A network administrator is the person designated by a department whose responsibility includes maintaining computer infrastructures with emphasis on networking.
Duties include:
- Functioning as the department’s first point of contact for network or Wireless related connectivity issues and connectivity requirements
- Being WTS’s primary departmental contact for troubleshooting of network or security related issues.
- Interfacing with WTS to understand, develop and define departmental network access policies and procedures as required
- Being responsible for entering, managing and auditing departmental network resources within RAMP
- Assisting with understanding departmental network connectivity requirements by conferring with departmental users; analyzing workflows, access requirements, information and data classifications, software and security requirements.
- Completing installation, configuration, and testing of various network connected equipment for the department
- Maintaining documentation as it pertains to departmental network connections, security policy and centrally allocated resource (EG. IP addresses) usage
- Actively involved in the management and maintenance of desktop computers, servers, printers, software implementations, security updates, file servers, intrusion detection systems and a wide range of additional technologies associated with both software and hardware connecting to Western’s network infrastructure.
- Assisting departmental users by designing and conducting training sessions; providing references and support as required.
