What would you like to do with NAVIGATION on your site in Cascade?
Top Navigation- create a top-level navigation folder and corresponding index page that will appear in the purple bar on all pages.
To create a Top-Level (purple bar) Navigation item:
- Click Add Content
- Click Folder
- Click Navigation Folder
- Enter the title that you want to appear in the Title field.
- Confirm that Include in the Top & Footer Navigation and Include in Side Navigation are set to Yes.
- Click Submit.
To create a Navigation Index page:
- Click Add Content
- Click Page
- Click Navigation Index Page
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 from the Top-level Navigation instructions.
- Enter any content for the page.
- Click the ellipses next to the Preview Draft and then click the Submit.
Navigation Sub-Folder- create and use a navigation sub-folder and its corresponding index page.
Navigation Sub-Folders appear under Navigation Folders and should only be used if you have multiple files to add to the folder. Ensure that you have selected the correct Navigation Folder to place your Navigation Sub-Folder.
To create a Navigation Sub-Folder:
- Click Add Content
- Click Folder
- Click Navigation Sub-Folder.
- Enter the appropriate data into the Title field (i.e. Contact Us)
- Confirm Include in Top & Footer Navigation and Include in Side Navigation are set to Yes.
- Click Submit.
A new Sub-Folder will appear in your folder list. To create a necessary Navigation Index Page:
- Click Add Content
- Click Page
- Click Navigation Index Page
- Give the page a Title (eg. Eighteenth Century History) - this is the text that appears in the navigation.
- Confirm Include in Top & Footer Navigation and Include in Side Navigation are set to Yes.
- If you wish to have a different page title than indicated in the Title field, enter it in the Alternative Page Title field. (if used, Alternative appears on the page, Title in the Side Navigation)
- Add the content for this page now, or you can choose to do so later.
- Click the ellipses next to the Preview Draft and then click Submit.
You will see the index file associated with the Sub-Folder in your folder list.
External Link- create an external link to an outside webpage that will appear as a navigation item in your top or side navigation.
- Selecte the navigation folder you wish the external link to be in.
- Click Add Content
- Click Page
- Click External Link
- Enter Title you wish you use
- Ensure that Include in Top Navigation and Include in Side Navigation are set to Yes
- Enter the complete url you wish to use into the Link section.
- Click the ellipses next to the Preview Draft and then click Submit.
- Your new external link will appear in the left folder structure as well as having the web page url display on the centre portion of the screen.
Reference Link- create an internal reference link as a navigation item in your top or side navigation
- Click on the page you want to reference, then click on More and choose Reference from the drop down list.
- Give the reference page a meaningful Title
- Browse to for the Placement Folder for that you want the link to appear.
- Click Submit.
- You will now see the asset you wanted to link TO is showing within the folder where you wanted to link FROM and, as a result, is showing as a navigation item within that folder.
Note: the information in the reference will be a direct copy of the page and can only be edited by editing the original page.
Reorder Navigation or News Articles- change the order items appear in your top navigation, side navigation or news articles
- Click on your main site folder or sub-folder you need to reorder. Keeping your mouse on the folder name, hover your mouse to the right over to the arrow, then choose View folder.
- The information displayed in the Name column will often be in alphabetical order. The Order column tells you which order your folders and pages are currently in.
- Click on Order. The column will reorder in numerical order.
- Click on one of the sub-folder or pages in the folder. A menu will appear. Use the arrows in the menu to change the order. Lower ordered items will appear before higher ordered items in both the top and side navigation.
Change Font Size in the Purple Navigation Bar- increase or decrease the font size in your navigation bar.
Note: In order to change the font size in top navigation, you must have access to the 2012 Design Master. You can check your access by searching in the Site bar. If you do not have access, request access by creating a Service Desk ticket as https://westernu.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2/group/13/create/33.
If you increase the number of navigation items you have in your top navigation, you may need to change the font size to accommodate them all. When your site is created, the top navigation size is normally set to Large. but it can be changed to medium or small as your site navigation grows. The font size for the top navigation is set in a format e.g. 2012 Design Master:shared formats/navigation - top - large .
1. To change the font size, you must change the format in each of your Configurations. You have the option of choosing 4 sizes:
- 2012 Design Master:shared formats/navigation - top - xlarge
- 2012 Design Master:shared formats/navigation - top - large
- 2012 Design Master:shared formats/navigation - top - medium
- 2012 Design Master:shared formats/navigation - top - small
2. To edit each of your Configurations, click Manage Sites found in the black bar at the top of your screen.
3. You should be able to see the Configuration section, click Go to Configurations button.
4. Right click on each of your configurations and click on Edit.
5. Scroll down to the regions section. The regions are in alphabetical order. Find the region called Navigation Top and click on the current format.
6. A side screen will appear. Click Browse. Search for 2012 Design Master on site search. Click on shared formats. Click on the the name format you want to use (navigation - top - medium, navigation - top - small, etc.) and then click Choose .
7. Click Submit .
8. Repeat the steps for each configuration noting that the chosen navigation will now be immediately available to you in step 6 so you will not have to browse for it.
