Application Environment

We need to know under which environment the application will be hosted. This is determined by what type of access is required to the address of application. This does not affect what a user can do once they are in the application, only whether a user can access the application from off campus.

webapps.uwo.ca - Accessible from everywhere.

internalapps.uwo.ca - Accessible only from on campus or through Western ROAMS.

Friendly URL

Each application will receive a friendly URL that will redirect users to the actual application address. As an example, if WTS were to offer a recipe book application (sorry, we do not), a URL could be set up with the address recipes.its.uwo.ca, that goes the application hosted at webapps.uwo.ca/recipebook. This redirect recipes.its.uwo.ca will work regardless of whether the application is moved in the future. The redirect address should be used for documentation and is what users should be bookmarking.

Testing and Sign Off

This migration should introduce little to no functionality changes in your application. However, as with all changes made to applications, we need someone to test and sign off on the release to production. For more information on testing, please see the Customer Engagement page.

Communication

The application owner is responsible for communicating to the application user base about any changes as a result of the migration. This could include but not be limited to:

• Address change of the application.
• Access to the application address.
• Updates to the look and feel.
