Jabber Softphones

Jabber Softphone solution extends Western’s VoIP voice services to allow off-campus access to campus voice services (Western's telephone numbers).

Note: Jabber for Western allows off-campus access only and will not work on Western's Network (wired or wireless).

Jabber Softphone is a software-based phone that allows to place and receive calls directly from your devices in addition to your desk (office) phone. Devices include desktop computers, laptops and smartphones.  Cisco Jabber client needs to be installed on a device which requires access to Internet (WiFi, wired, cellular data) to connect to Western's VoIP voice services.

Note:  Jabber for Western University only works as a phone.  Other functions (video, chat, …) have been disabled.

Requirements

  • Western's department number, listed on Western Directory and already attached to a physical phone
  • Western's UCCX Call Centers - agent or supervisor extension number
  • Western Identity for Jabber profile setup

Request Jabber profile

The request has to be approved by a telephone coordinator for your department or a contact for UCCX Call Center.

Note: You need to specify which device will be used for Jabber - Windows, iOS, iPhone, Android.

To submit a request you will need to accept the risk associated with 911 emergency calling.

*** IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING EMERGENCY (911) CALLS *
Emergency calls to 911 should NOT be placed from your Jabber clients –  During an emergency, Jabber softphone technology may not provide the most timely or accurate location data if used for a 911 emergency call. Calls may be misdirected to the wrong emergency response center or the emergency response center may make errors when determining your location. USE A SOFTPHONE ONLY AT YOUR OWN RISK DURING AN EMERGENCY.
