Recording Options

There are two ways to record  your classes or meetings in Zoom.  The ability to use either of these options will depend on your role at Western as well as the type of device you are using to login to Zoom.

Local Recording

All Western users hosting classes or meetings have the ability to do a local recording of their session. Local recording allows hosts to record their class or meeting to a local file on the device that you are logged into when using Zoom. Please note that the transcript feature is not available for local recordings.

Device Limitation: Chromebooks and cell phones do not have the ability to allow Zoom local recording.

Cloud Recording

Cloud recording can be made available to faculty and staff upon request. To request this access, please create a Service Desk ticket at https://westernu.atlassian.net/servicedesk.

Cloud Recordings are only available for 7 days before they are deleted.  If you wish to keep your recordings for a longer period of time you will need to copy your recording from Zoom and store it outside of Zoom. When you record a meeting and choose Record to the Cloud, the video, audio, and chat text are recorded in the Zoom cloud. The recording files can be downloaded to a computer or streamed from a browser.
